The training sessions will take place at the Lake Lanier Islands Legacy Lodge.

The cost of the networking reception (and one drink ticket) is included in the registration fee. Guests are welcome to attend for an additional fee of $40 per person. This fee includes access to the reception and 1 drink ticket.

Registration for this seminar is open until August 16, 2019. Registrations received after August 2, 2019 or on-site registrations will incur a $25.00 late fee.

Participants who register, but who do not attend, will be billed as “no shows.”

District 9 Meeting @ Lawrenceville Police Department
Aug 21 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

The August 21st District 9 meeting will be held at the Lawrenceville Police Department,  located at 300 Jackson Street, Lawrenceville GA, 30046.  There is limited parking in the front of the building so please have those attending park in the rear of the building.  We will have Staff and Citizen Police Academy Alumni assist in getting attendees to the training room.  There are two entries to the rear of the police department.  One entry is off Jackson Street and the other is off Hwy 124 just south of its intersection with Jackson Street.  Breakfast will be served starting at 9:00 AM.  The training will start at approximately 10:00 AM.  The topic of the training will be the Ghost Face Gangsters presented by Chris Tompkins from Cobb County Police Department.

District 10 Meeting @ Prosecuting Attorneys Council

The District 10 Meeting will be held in the Prosecuting Attorneys Council 4th floor training room on August 27th at 10am.

Chief(RET) Dwayne Hobbs  will be on hand to present new smart phone technology that gives 911 operators the exact location of the caller.  Most 911 centers can only give the tower location and when they triangulate the call can only get a general area.  This piece of technology is like Uber for 911 giving an exact location.

There will also be a discussion on the new misdemeanor charging forms.

The Gainesville Police Department is pleased to host the September GACP 9th District training. The training will be at the Fair Street Neighborhood Center on 9/18/19. The address is 715 Fair Street, Gainesville, Georgia 30501. A GPS will take you there. There is additional parking in the rear of the building. Breakfast will be served at 9:00 am with the training beginning around 9:30 am. The doors will open at 8:30 for coffee for the early arrivers.

Presenter:

Dwayne Orrick, Assistant Executive Director of Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP).  Dwayne has over 39 years of law enforcement experience. Previously, he commanded the Training and Support Services Division of the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office. Before joining Gwinnett County he served as the police chief in Roswell, Georgia and the Police Chief/Public Safety Director in Cordele for a combined 23 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Masters of Public Administration from the University of Georgia. Orrick is the author of more than 40 articles on police leadership and management as well as the book Recruitment, Retention and Turnover of Police Personnel.

Dangerous Crossroads Ahead: The Intersection Of The First & Fourth Amendment

Our Law Enforcement agencies are increasingly encountering citizens boldly asserting what they think are constitutional rights guaranteed by the First and Fourth Amendments. This course examines the crossroads where these two constitutional principles intersect and provides practical tips for dealing with people who may be legitimately exercising constitutional rights, and others who are actively trying to bait officers into overreaction. Topics to be explored include refusal to identify, refusal to answer questions, dealing with bystanders, profanity towards officers, filming of police activity and police facilities, related officer safety concerns, weapons pat downs, and the seizure of cameras or cell phones that have recorded police activity. Training will be provided on multiple dates in separate locations.

District 6 Meeting – Students Against Destructive Decisions

The District 6 training will be held on Tuesday, September 24th. It will be hosted by Pembroke Public Safety Director, Bill Collins,  at the Harn/Teen Center located at 91 Lanier St. Pembroke Ga. 31321. Training will start at 9:00 am until 12:00 pm and has been approved for three hours of executive training. Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP for lunch to publicsafety@pembrokega.net.

 

The Bryan County SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) presentation is to educate police chiefs on the benefits of partnering with youth led organizations in their community. This partnership will change the community in regards to the perception of police, as well as other stakeholders. Prevention, cultural competency and sustainability are key elements that help engage community members in the problem solving process. Youth are resources to discovering root causes in community problems. By uniting with youth, you are creating a small “task-force” that can help build relations within the community. There are current youth groups you can partner with in your community or you can develop your own. This year BCHS SADD was one of three school chosen to present at a national level conference in D.C. They are also one of the few youth led Drug Free Coalitions (DFC) in national. By investing in youth leadership, you are investing in a better community and future. This training should provide you with ideas on how to start partnering with youth and the benefits of those relationship.
