The Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (POST) is implementing an Officer Resiliency Program designed to provide officers with the life skills and abilities to overcome adversity, manage stress, and thrive in their personal and private lives. A Train-the-Trainer course for General Certified Instructors is being offered by the LaGrange Police Department.
There is no-cost to attend this training. Please have your personnel register as soon as possible.
This training has been approved for 20 executive hours. Note, this training is intended for individuals who are expected to commit to being a part of this important program and mission. Please do not sign up for this course merely to satisfy executive hour requirements.

This training requires overnight lodging and is funded by the Resiliency Training Program Grant Fund. Participants are asked to arrive the day before the training begins on October 5th and will depart on the afternoon of the 8th once the training is complete. Participants will be provided lodging information after registration for the class has been completed.

The City of Monroe Police Department is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the October District Nine meeting at their new facility located at 140 Blaine Street, Monroe, Georgia. (8:00 AM) Organizational Leadership & Culture (2hrs): This class will examine how a leader’s personal values effect their organization’s culture and values. Leaders at all levels must be aware that the organization will follow their lead regardless of what the organization’s stated values may be. This impact on organizational values and culture is tied directly to leadership.
(10:00 AM) Leadership Concepts (2hrs): This class will discuss leadership in terms of theory, definition, traits and characteristics and then examine law enforcement leadership through the lens of the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership found in The Leadership Challenge by James Kouzes and Barry Posner.
(1:00 PM) Wellness & Resilience for Law Enforcement Leaders (4hrs): This class discusses the various stressors and challenges in law enforcement, and will assist the law enforcement leader not only identifying these stressors but also devising an action plan so they can develop a culture of wellness and resilience for themselves and the organization.

Making Discipline Stick
The vast majority of citizen complaints and internal acts of employee misconduct encountered by government agencies are generated by a small number of problem individuals. Unfortunately, research has revealed that when disciplinary actions are reviewed by an outside source (i.e. grievance arbitrator or civil service board), public sector discipline is overturned or reduced about half of the time.
► Address the few “bad apples” in your agency who are responsible for the majority of citizen complaints and internal acts of employee misconduct.
► Identify the 5 most common reasons arbitrators give for overturning a public agency’s employee discipline
► Make discipline STICK in order to hold employees accountable and give much needed “wake up calls” before performance issues become so serious that termination is required or public safety is threatened.
