The Assistant Chief of Police reports to the Chief of Police under the Division of Finance and Administration . As the second-in-command law enforcement officer for the university, the Assistant Chief is responsible for the daily leadership, strategic planning, and management of a growing university police department.

The Assistant Chief of Police helps direct a department of 17 sworn officers and 6 civilian personnel. Responsibilities will include directing and coordinating, through subordinate supervisors, department activities; reviews and analyzes reports, records, and directives, and confers with the Chief to obtain data required for planning department activities, such as new commitments, status of work in progress, and problems encountered; assists assigning, or delegating responsibility for specified work or functional activities and disseminates policy to staff; give work directions, resolves problems, prepares schedules, and sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work; assists coordinating activities for the department with related activities of other departments to ensure efficiency and economy; and evaluates current procedures and practices for accomplishing department objectives to develop and implement improved procedures and practices.
