Dear Chaplains and Chiefs,
Plans are being made for our 15th Annual G.A.L.E.C. Chaplain’s Training Conference, formally known as G.A.C.P. Chaplains Training. We will offer the basic chaplains training course for any chaplain who has not received the mandate training, and will offer advanced training for those who have already taken the basic course.
I want to remind everyone that P.O.S.T. is no longer certifying chaplains. However, GALEC is certifying the training and it will be up to the chiefs to certify their own chaplains. Your officers are working diligently to provide you with the best and most up to date training possible. I look forward to meeting you personally and enjoying a time of fellowship with you over these days at our conference.
The dates for the training will be August 13–16, 2018 for the Basic Chaplains Training and August 14–16, 2017 for Advance Chaplains Training. This year’s conference location is the Bryon Police Department, Byron, GA. Please note this is different than previous years where we used conference centers. You are responsible for lodging and food with the exception of lunch and snacks. Registration begins at 8:00 AM on the 13th or 3:00 PM on the 14th respectfully.
Please review the attached registration form for the costs. The conference cost is due by August 1. A late fee of $25.00 will be imposed for registration after this date or at the door. Payment can be made by check, money order, or credit card (MC or Visa only). Requests for refunds must be in writing. A $50 penalty fee will be deducted on refunds made after the registration deadline. This fee is necessary to offset expenses associated with our contract obligations and training costs. A registration form without some form of deposit is not registered until a deposit is submitted via check, money order, or credit card.
Chiefs, please encourage your chaplains to register early. It is necessary so that food and housing arrangements can be confirmed with the conference center. If you have questions, please contact me by email at email@example.com or call us at 404.793.2781.
For the Advanced Training:
May 29, 2018
I am excited about our upcoming GALEC Chaplain Training for 2018, August 13-16. We will
be meeting at the Byron Police Department. I have tried to put together an interesting and
beneficial training for this year.
Those who are attending the Basic Class, there will be no registration on Sunday
afternoon/evening. You will need to arrive at the Police Department around 7:00 AM
for registration. Classes will begin promptly at 8:00 AM.
For those attending the Advanced Class, there will be someone to register you between
4:00 and 6:00 PM on Monday. If you arrive after 6:00 PM on Monday, you will need to register
at 7:00 AM on Tuesday. Classes will begin promptly at 8:00 AM on Tuesday for the
The GALEC officers realize that sometimes emergencies arise and need to be handled. So, if
you have an emergency that arises, please contact me before you leave and we will
work out how you can receive full credit for the conference. For the officers this is simply
a matter of integrity, that when we give you a certificate with a certain number of hours
on it, that participants need to be present for those hours.
I am attaching a copy of the tentative schedule and instructors for the conference. Please
understand that sometimes at the last minute changes have to be made.
I look forward to seeing each of you at our training conference, I am praying that we
will have well over 100 present for the week. If you know a chaplain that may not get this
information, please pass it along and encourage them to attend.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Neal Brown, GALEC
Message from Chief Callaway of Morrow PD:
Greetings District 10 Members:
We will hold a District 10 training session on August 21st from 1000 to 1200. The location of the training will be the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office located at 1590 Adamson Parkway in Morrow. The training will take place in the 4th floor training room. The topic will be legal and legislative updates. This is a great time of year to get this training especially if you are going to miss the GACP STC.
General Counsel PAC will be our speaker at out next District 10 meeting on August 21.
The General Counsel provides legal advice to members of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council and the Council staff. This includes providing guidance on contracts, employment matters and regulatory issues. He serves as the professional responsibility officer for the district attorneys and solicitors-general and provides guidance on ethics and professional responsibility issues faced by prosecutors throughout the state. Additionally, during the annual sessions of the Georgia General Assembly, he reviews and monitors legislation that potentially impacts prosecution or the criminal justice system. He drafts legislation or amendments to pending legislation as requested by district attorneys, solicitors-general and legislators.
He attends the legislature every year (we have offices at the capitol) and keeps up with all legislation that affects crimes, criminal procedure, Law Enforcement, prosecution, etc. AS bills are dropped, he assigns them to PAC attorneys or other prosecutors in the state who will review them and offer substance on how they affect what we do.
