The January District Nine meeting will be held in Lavonia at the Historic Depot located at 1269 East Main Street. Please be advised that a good ole southern barbecue will be served at lunch so the training will begin at 10:00 am. Breakfast will not be served, but we will have plenty of coffee and light snacks for the early arrivers. I encourage each of you to attend this meeting as we share “A Case Study In a Small Town Police Shooting”. The training is focused on a six day period in December 2016 when six Georgia law enforcement officers were shot, two of those being fatal. We will examine the shootings in Lavonia as well as the aftermath followed by the tragic events in Americus. The Instructors for the training session will be Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle and Americus Police Chief Mark Scott.
For those of you traveling south on S.R. 17 from I-85. simply proceed to the traffic signal downtown (West Ave) and turn left. Proceed over the railroad tracks and the depot is on your immediate left.
For those traveling north on S.R. 17, turn right at the traffic signal and proceed as stated above.

GACP Winter Training Conference
On behalf of myself and GACP District 5 Representative Chief Chris Wright, we would like to invite you to our next quarterly meeting that will be held ; Tuesday, 20 February 2018 at 1200-1400 hours at the Bonefish Grill located on St Simons Island. The physical address is 202 Retreat Village #3 St Simons Island, Ga. 31522.
Our speaker will be Charles “Skeet” Brewer from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. The subject will be; “How to Implement a Tactical Medicine Training Program”. He presented this to the IACP in Philadelphia last year and as I understand it, the presentation was well received and very beneficial. For those of you who have the benefit of knowing “Skeet”, he’s an awesome and humble guy that gets things done. He’s done an outstanding job getting all my staff up to speed on tactical medicine and bleeding control. He will also discuss other training options at the FLETC and how to take advantage of the FLETC training close to home. This block he will present to us has been submitted to Monica at GACP for approval for POST Chief’s credit.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank newly appointed Glynn County Police Chief John Powell on his appointment as Chief, and for desiring to host this event! He’s a guy with a ton of experience and a superlative attitude of service and collaboration. On another note, if you have not eaten at the Bonefish, you’re in for a real treat!

The Georgia Public Safety Training Center is offering a one-day Fentanyl Response & Current Drug Trends Symposium on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. This symposium will present information on appropriate protective strategies when faced with an incident involving possible fentanyl exposure, current drug trends, and updates from the GBI Crime Lab Toxicologists.

On Wednesday, March 21st, the Franklin Springs Police Department is proud to be hosting the District 9 meeting at our City Hall located at 2531 W. Main Street in Franklin Springs. The City Hall is located on US Highway 29 directly in front of the Emmanuel College Athletic Center.
Breakfast will be provided and we will begin serving at 9:00 a.m.
We ask the everyone please park in the rear parking lot of City Hall.
Our training will start at 10:00 a.m. with Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney D. Parks White presenting New Laws and Legal Update.

The next training for District 10 will be Thursday March 22nd at 10:00am until 12:00pm at the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council (PAC) located at 1590 Adamson Parkway Morrow, Ga. 4th floor training room. Our speaker will be William Travelpiece from HIDTA.
Also, it is time for the District 10 Representative election. If anyone is interested in becoming the District 10 representative please e-mail with your letter of interest so that I can insure your name in on the nomination list. Otherwise, we will take nominations from the floor and vote on our District 10 Representative. Please make note of this training and the very important election and please make every effort to be in attendance. Two (2) hours of GACP CEO training credit will be offered.
