Executive Maritime Briefing

& Homeland Security (Maritime) Training                             1000-1200

This course provides a 360° overview of maritime specific Homeland Security initiatives. The course provides an in-depth review of the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) of 2002, landmark legislation passed after the September 11th attacks. The course provides instruction in a manner designed to assist leaders and/or agency heads in understanding the key role that local and state partners play in broader effort of safeguarding not just the global supply chain, but the domestic homeland.

Topic(s) covered are as follows:

  • History of the MTSA History and its relation to the ISPS code
  • An overview of the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT)
  • Deterrence Strategies for Dangerous Devices and Substances
  • Maritime Coordination and Response Procedures
  • Port Tour (Garden City Terminal)

This presentation will focus on leadership strategies and/or approaches to keeping our communities and State thriving.

The training will be presented by the new GBI Cyber Center located in Augusta, GA.  You will also be invited to tour the new facility after the meeting.  (2 hours of executive credits)

Message from District 9:

The December District Nine meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in Jefferson and hosted by Chief Joe Wirthman.  Please make every effort to attend as we will recognize Gainesville Police Chief Carol Martin for her impending retirement.  Chief Martin has served in many leadership roles with the GACP and has assisted me as the appointed District Representative.  See Chief Wirthman’s message below and respond accordingly.  As you will see from Chief Wirthman’s message, we will be having lunch instead of breakfast so please plan accordingly.  I look forward to seeing each of you in Jefferson!

District 9 Meeting @ Young Harris College

The Young Harris College Police Department is proud to host the January District 9 Meeting.  The meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 16 in the Rollins Campus Center on the Young Harris College Campus.  The college is located at 1 College Street Young Harris, Georgia 30582.  Breakfast will be ready at 9:00 AM with the meeting to follow.

We will have an officer posted on College Street to assist with parking and meeting location.  Please RVSP to Assistant Chief Robbie Rich at crich@yhc.edu by January 11.  Training will be provided by Enotah District Attorney Jeff Langley.

Greetings District 10 members,

I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year!  The January training will be held on January 17th at the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council here in Morrow.  PAC is located on the 4th floor of 1590 Adamson Parkway and the training will take place in the training room.

This training will be on SB 407 and the Uniform Misdemeanor Citation Form.  The trainer will be PAC General Counsel Robert Smith.  Your Solicitors, Judges, and Clerks are welcome to attend as well.  I know I have many questions about this and I know a lot of you do as well.

Animal Law Source is honored to host the K-9 Handler Intensive. Special thanks to the Office of the District Attorney, Towaliga Judicial Circuit for hosting and co-sponsors Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia and National Sheriff’s Association for this event. This training is open to law enforcement, prosecutors, judges and K9 handlers and provides for a true collaborative, up-to-date educational experience which will include a mock trial. 8 P.O.S.T. credits will be offered for law enforcement.

NEWS Georgia police dog, who was shot in the head while hunting down a suspect accused of shooting and killing a DeKalb officer, has been released from a veterinary hospital. The K9 Officer Indi and his handler at our K9 Handler Intensive Training.
