The City of Kingsland, a vibrant and progressive community of 16,000 residents and host to thousands of tourists and travelers daily, located in Camden County, Georgia approximately 34 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida, is accepting applications from well qualified individuals for the position of Chief of Police. Salary range is $69,356.60 to $84,628.23, including generous benefits, depending on experience and qualifications. The Chief of Police is a Charter position appointed by the Mayor and City Council.
The Kingsland Police Department includes 40 sworn personnel and 2 civilian personnel. The Department has a current (Fiscal Year 2018-2019) operating budget of $3,132,547 and responds to approximately 69,000 calls for service annually. Kingsland encompasses 14 square miles and is a popular tourist destination on the I-95 corridor due to its close proximity to the beaches and attractions of Florida and Brunswick and the Golden Isles of Georgia.
The City is seeking a Chief of Police who can be a positive role model, provide solid leadership to the men and women of the Kingsland Police Department and be able to cultivate and nurture community trust and confidence in the Department.
Applicants for this position should be law-enforcement professionals with 10 years or its equivalent experience in federal, state, county, municipal or military policing in an agency of equal or larger size and characteristics, including at least five years in a progressively responsible law enforcement management position. A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field or relative working experience and educational experience required, Master’s degree is preferred. Advanced management training from the FBI National Academy is desired. An equivalent combination of experience, training and education will be considered. Candidates must possess excellent written and oral communication skills; strong leadership ability; be able to work effectively with local elected and appointed officials and community representatives; have a strong commitment to community-based police service; and have the ability to foster and maintain a high level of professional and ethical conduct among all members of the Police Department. Residency in the City within 6-months of appointment is preferred. Candidates must have and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, have or be able to obtain Georgia Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification within a reasonable time period.
