Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to plan, organize, and direct the Investigations Division of the Fulton County Office of the Solicitor General. Work involves overseeing, supervising, and conducting professional investigative work to support the resolution of cases and the successful prosecution of offenders. The Chief Investigator, Solicitor General provides support, resources, and security directly to the Solicitor General or to Assistant Solicitors. This classification is distinguished from the series by the responsibility for managing the entire investigative staff of the Solicitor General’s Office. This is a single incumbent classification whose primary responsibilities involve management and oversight, but may also investigate cases that represent the most complex or unique cases assigned to the Solicitor General’s Office.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in criminology, criminal justice or a related field required; supplemented by five years of progressively experience in law enforcement or investigative fields to include lead or supervisory experience and seven years of experience in the field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification and PBLE certification.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position. Requires knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws and statutes, court rules and procedures, and methods and techniques used to conduct criminal investigations. Requires knowledge of the geography of the metropolitan Atlanta area. Requires interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interview, interrogate, persuade, or otherwise interact in the course of investigative work.
