The City of Social Circle is seeking our next Police Chief. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, exceptional leadership ability, broad experience in all aspects of local police work, education and expertise in local law enforcement, and a desire to work in a collaborative and community oriented environment. The Police Chief is appointed by and reports to the City Manager. The Social Circle Police Department currently has eighteen (18) sworn personnel and one (1) Administrative Assistant organized into patrol, investigation, and school resource officers.

The Police Department is State Certified, committed to community policing, invested in training and appropriate equipment, and well supported by the citizens. The Chief will be an engaging individual that will thrive in a collaborative environment focused on enhancing the excellence of police services provided to the community, and building innovative programs that foster positive relationships with all sectors of the community.

The City of Social Circle is a historic community that is located approximately 45 miles east of Atlanta in the Historic Heartlands section of Georgia in rural Walton County. The population of the city is approximately 5000. We are a small town with a big heart and we are a community proud of its history. Ideal Candidates:
Candidates should have demonstrated experience, professional excellence, integrity, and leadership ability in law enforcement, should have the willingness to become an integral part of, and assume a visible role in the community, should be able to communicate and interact professionally and effectively in all situations, and have the interest and ability to build positive relationships across the community. Broad investigative, drug enforcement, community policing and state certification experience is desired, with continuing education and/ or a degree in criminal justice or closely related field, and /or participation in the FBI National Academy or similar program.

Salary/ Benefits: Salary Range begins at $ 75,000 to $80,000 depending upon qualifications and experience. The City offers an excellent benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and retirement.

Minimum Qualifications:
● Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or related area; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. The degree(s) must be from an accredited college or university;
● Three years of police supervision and management experience;
● A combination of equivalent education, training and/or experience may be considered.
● Must possess and maintain valid Georgia P.O.S.T. Peace Officer certification;
● Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
As a condition of employment, applicants should be prepared for a background check that includes: polygraph exam, a psychological exam, a physical exam with drug screening, an in-depth background investigation, fingerprint/criminal history check via GCIC, driver’s license check via DMVS, credit history check; and a complete POST review.
