The CITY OF NAHUNTA is now accepting applications for Full-Time Chief of Police.

We are looking for an experienced police officer with strong integrity and problem-solving skills to join our growing community. Under limited supervision, the incumbent in this position will perform a variety functions including, but not limited to:

  • Coordinate schedules and activities for full and part-time officers
  • Respond to emergency calls and situations
  • Enforce traffic laws, manage traffic accidents, and establish roadblocks and reroutes
  • Investigate accidents, crimes, and violations of state/federal laws
  • Prepare and maintain reports, records, and logs
  • Appear in court to give testimony
  • Assist citizens in a variety of ways (providing directions, roadside assistance, etc.)
  • Arrest and transport individuals to detention facilities
  • Perform required booking procedures
  • Participate in community activities, special events, and special police programs
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local law regulations.


  • Must be 21 years of age at time of employment and hold a valid driver’s license
  • Currently possess Certification with state criminal justice and training standards
  • Licensed and qualified to operate firearms Excellent communication skills, including de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention
  • Must pass background check and drug screening
  • Must have open availability and be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays
