Executive Director’s Message
A.A. Butch Ayers
GACP Executive Director
It is almost time for the 2024 Summer Training Conference in Savannah. We are planning to provide 14 different topics of interest delivered in 27 sessions during the conference. We have also invited several legislators from the Georgia General Assembly to meet with us to see the type and quality of training as well as receive additional information on law enforcement technology and products.
This is our last “Summer” training conference. Beginning in 2025, we move to a “Spring / Fall” conference schedule. As part of this change, the 2024-2025 term of office for the new Executive Board will be 14 months. The Spring 2025 conference will be held on April 8-10 (Tuesday – Thursday) at the Gas South District in Duluth, and the Fall 2025 conference will be held in Savannah on September 16-18 (Monday – Wednesday) at the Savannah Convention Center / Westin.
Governor Brian Kemp signed numerous bills that were passed by both legislative chambers in 2024. We have prepared Legislative Update 24-09 (June 4, 2024) as well as a PowerPoint presentation on the new laws. Members can access this information through the GACP website by scrolling to the GACP Legislative Updates photo. Then you will have to enter your username and password.
As we mentioned earlier, there is a high demand for attending Chief’s School. We have scheduled five (5) sessions this year. We have completed the first two sessions, and Session #24-75 will start on August 12th, Session #24-76 will start on October 7th, and Session #24-77 will start on December 2nd. We are also slightly increasing the size of each class in response to the demand. While attendance for chiefs is mandated by state law and therefore is given priority, command staff attendees may be on a waiting list for more than one year.
Therefore, we strongly recommend that chiefs wanting command staff to attend should go ahead and submit a request letter now, rather than wait for a particular session. Also, it is extremely important that registered students attend as scheduled or provide the required timely notice of cancellation. That way, we can offer the slot to someone else on the waiting list.
Thank you for supporting GACP. I hope to see you in Savannah.
