THE LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY
The City of Albany seeks an experienced, ethical, and community-centered law-enforcement executive to serve as its next Chief of Police.
Reporting to the City Manager, the Chief of Police will serve as Albany’s senior law-enforcement executive and a key member of the City’s executive leadership team. The Chief will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational performance, organizational culture, fiscal stewardship, personnel development, and community relationships of the Albany Police Department.
The next Chief will lead with vision, integrity, transparency, and operational excellence while strengthening community trust, reducing crime, supporting employees, advancing professional policing, and building partnerships throughout Albany and Southwest Georgia.

The Albany Police Department combines advanced resources and specialized capabilities with the personal connections of a community-focused agency. APD recognizes that lasting public safety requires strong relationships with residents, neighborhoods, businesses, schools, faith communities, health-care providers, and regional partners.
CONNECTED TO THE COMMUNITY
Community engagement includes the Citizen’s and Teen Police Academies, Coffee with a Cop, Faith & Blue, Operation Blue Santa, neighborhood meetings, youth outreach, crime-prevention education, and the Albany Community Safety Partnership.
A co-responder partnership with Aspire Behavioral Health supports a more comprehensive response to individuals experiencing behavioral-health crisis.
PROFESSIONAL AND DATA-INFORMED
APD provides Uniform Patrol, Special Operations, Criminal Investigations, Forensics, Traffic Enforcement, Crime Analysis, Community Relations, Crisis Intervention, Animal Control, and regional tactical and investigative partnerships.
From 2021 through 2024, APD achieved an approximate 20% reduction in total Part I crime. Continued strategies include Operation 360, repeat-offender tracking, intelligence-led deployment, traffic and school-zone enforcement, and federal, state, and local crime-suppression partnerships.
Modern public-safety tools include the Real-Time Information Center, Connect Albany, camera and license-plate-reader technology, gunshot detection, bodyworn cameras, the APD mobile application, and enhanced crime analysis.
Future priorities include neighborhood safety and engagement, coordinated responses to homelessness and quality-of-life concerns, a Regional Fusion Center, and expanded officer wellness, recruitment, retention, and leadership development.
